3 tips for muslims traveling in Bangkok

Bangkok which is the capital of Thailand is home to 10 million people. A true metropolitan and a melting pot of Thai, Western and other Oriental cultures. It is also home to more than 300,000 muslims. This post would point 5 tips for muslims who are new to the city either as visitors or those who relocate here for working and living. I've been calling Bangkok home since 2017 and would be happy to share more local insights to this city!

1. Where to find halal meat?

While it is not too difficult to find halal shops within the metropolitan area sometimes language barrier might prevent you from finding these halal restaurants in Bangkok. You can find more about some halal restaurants in Bangkok in this post

However, if you are looking for meat to cook for your self, you could find halal beef and chicken selections at some local chain supermarkets. Among others are Makro ( plenty of halal frozen beef, chicken and duck), Tesco Lotus (some prepacked halal chicken), Villa Market (prepacked halal meat), Foodland (prepacked halal meat), there is a chance to find this in BigC, but not all the time.

2. Where can I find halal ready to eat meals?

Of course, the best halal ready to eat meals would be by your friendly neighbourhood food vendor. Unfortunately, this may not always be an option due to timing or language barrier. This post tells more about some halal street food  in Bangkok in Bangkok. However, fear not. You can always find deliciously precooked meals which are halal in all 7-eleven shops in Bangkok. Be sure to double check the label. And don't worry, if you are staying in metropolitan bangkok, there surely is a 7-eleven shop nearby.

3. What about mosques in Bangkok?

There are plenty of mosques in Bangkok. These mosques usually host Friday prayers, tarawih prayers, and even eid prayers. This post lists some mosques in the Bangkok vicinity. If you happen to be nearby to a mosque vicinity, it might be worth to check the area out as you would normally find good local halal shops nearby.
