Are you looking for somewhere interesting to break away from your mundane weekend routine in Bangkok? Why not hop in to the car and drive off to the suburb of Nong Chok, which is also close by to Minburi - the muslim enclave of Bangkok.
Once you arrive in Nong Chok, turn on your GPS and look for a shop called Voodoo cafe. Despite the name ... I am pretty sure that the shop has nothing to do with Sihir
Voodoo Cafe is a shop unlike any other that we have been to in Bangkok. It is beyond just a restaurant, it is by itself a destination. The restaurant is flocked by people both for its food, and the quirky and interesting photo opp in the garden and in the eating hall.
The garden is themed as a hybrid of an english estate garden, a rock garden, and also something out of the american midwest theme. Its a mix of fun and elegant depending on what you are looking for.
The interior decor of the dining halls (there are several halls) has a rustic theme with a variety of indoor plants.
Although we didn’t manage to eat a lot of food, we saw many tables around us ordering pizza, steak and a variety of Thai food. We ordered the Beef Larb with Sticky Rice and Meat Lovers Pizza.
The verdict on the beef larb is excellent. While the pizza was good, I can only rate as an 8/10. It was certainly above average and much better than any of the normal fast food pizza. But, the cheese was a bit dry for my liking (others may have differing opinions)
Another feature that I loved at this shop was the prayer room. It is big enough, clean and comfortable. Interestingly as a restropective thought, I realized that the prayer room was the highest point on the land, built on a mound in the center of the garden.
This is definitely a place I would recommend you to bring visiting friends and family, as an alternative to the cliche destinations of Bangkok.
